IDIA was privileged to have Associate Professor Ishwara Chandra from the National Centre for Radio Astrophysics (NCRA) in Pune, India as a sabbatical visitor for one year.
In a warm send-off the the UCT Astronomy department on September 20, Prof. Russ Taylor mentioned how Prof. Chandra’s research contributed to the group’s deep imaging efforts, and thanked Prof. Chandra for his many contributions and interactions with, among others, students.
Prof. Chandra expressed how much fun this sabbatical visit had been and how fast this year had gone by.
The Giant Meterwave Radio Telescope (GMRT) run by NCRA complements radio astronomy observations carried out by IDIA researchers. The collaboration between Prof. Chandra’s home institute and IDIA will continue and already includes plans to visit the Indian research institute and to welcome its collaborators in South Africa in 2019.
