We are pleased once again to welcome another international visitor, Prof. Jayanne English from the University of Manitoba, a university in Winnipeg, Canada. Prof. English is visiting IDIA from 31 October to 10 November 2019, and will be hosted by the University of Cape Town.
Prof. English is a long time acquaintance of Prof. Russ Taylor, the Director of IDIA. Prof. English and Prof. Taylor have worked together on several projects over the years. Prof. English has worked extensively in the intersection of art and science and in public engagement. Prof. English has created many the striking public images that have emerged from the Hubble Space Telescope, and she coordinated the Hubble Heritage Project.
Prof. English is part of the new Canadian CIRADA project that is working with IDIA on the visualisation challenges of next generation radio astronomy data sets. During her visit she will be giving a talk on “Using Data visualisation to explore and communicate your science” as part of the SEADS series and running a workshop on astronomical data Visualisation at the University of Cape Town on Tuesday 05 November 2019 and University of the Western Cape on Friday 08 November 2019.
