We are pleased to announce the RADIOMAP 2025 closing workshop.
The workshop will take place on the 13th and 14th of November 2025 at the UCT-GSB Campus in Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront.
The workshop will represent an opportunity for reflecting on the past 3 years of RADIOMAP activities and to plan for the next program in synergy with the MeerKAT+ and SKA/SRC developments.
About the Workshop
The RADIOMAP project has represented a major step in strengthening scientific, technological, and computational collaborations between Italy and South Africa in the field of radio astronomy. Over the past three years, the project has successfully built bridges across institutions, consolidated joint research activities, and created new opportunities for capacity building, particularly in preparation for the exploitation of MeerKAT+, and, ultimately, the Square Kilometre Array (SKA).
This final workshop will provide a platform to showcase the achievements of RADIOMAP, highlight the scientific and technological outcomes, and reflect on the lessons learned throughout the project. Presentations will cover the progress made across the three main work packages:
- Science – the results obtained in pulsar studies, Galactic Plane, transient phenomena, galaxy evolution, clusters, cosmology, and VLBI.
- Technology – advancements in Local Monitor and Control (LMC) software and correlator design for MeerKAT+.
- Computing – development of pipelines, data visualisation tools, and big data approaches, enabling a more effective use of radio interferometric data.
Beyond summarising the outcomes of RADIOMAP, the workshop has a forward-looking purpose. A final round table will gather key Italian and South African stakeholders, scientists, and technologists to discuss strategies for the next phase of cooperation. This includes identifying priority areas for scientific exploitation of MeerKAT+, consolidating technical collaborations, and ensuring that both communities are strategically aligned for the opportunities offered by the SKA.
