MEETING TRIBUTE: PROF CAROLINA ODMAN-GOVENDER

We dedicate this focus meeting to the memory of Prof. Carolina Odman-Govender who sadly passed away on the 15th November 2022. An incredible colleague, friend and inspiration to all, we miss her dearly. She was at the front lines working to address the coming “big data” challenges, particularly for radio astronomy and South Africa, and had vast experience with the topic, as well as workshops, hacks, outreach and amazing organizational skills – indeed she was heavily involved in this XXXII GA as part of the NOC and given her background, would have been a major contributor to our focus meeting. By continuing in her footsteps, we honour her and her work, and hope that throughout this meeting we will channel her encouragement and enthusiasm as we discuss what the future will bring in terms of new technology, computing and observational facilities – all at unprecedented scales – for both science and the development of the next generation of astronomers.
